Matthew P. Kocisky

Matthew P. Kocisky, age 92 of Midland, died at the home of his daughter on Wednesday June 3, 2015. The son of the late Matthew P. and Mary (Braznick) Kocisky was born in Midland on March 25, 1923. Matt had been employed with The Dow Chemical Company until his retirement in 1982 after 30 years of service. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, riding motorcycles, playing euchre, cooking, watching the Detroit Tigers and spending time with his grandkids. On April 18, 1953 in Midland Matt married the former Irene Opalewski and after 52 years of marriage she died on June 9, 2005. Both he and his wife were the recipients of the volunteer of the year award given by the Michigan State University Meals on Wheel's program.

Surviving are his children, Deb Miller of Lansing, Kevin (Sue) Kocisky of Midland, Karen (Bob) Marks of Sanford; grandchildren, Kristina Kocisky, Renee (Jared) Stemaly, Richard and Shawn Marks; step grandson, Len (Sheleigh) Nicola; great grandchildren, Kaedin & Khloie Kocisky; special person, Karen Shihady; sisters, Mary Berlin and Edith Woods both of Midland. In addition to his parents Matt was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lacey Marks in 1987; brother, George Kocisky and sister, Helen Schaefer.

Funeral services for Mr. Kocisky will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday June 6, 2015 at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Rev. Andrew E. Loesel and Rev. Larry Wright will officiate. Interment will be in Lee Township Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home 4210 N. Saginaw Rd Midland on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
