Mary Ann Ellis

Mary Ann Ellis, age 96 of Midland died at her residence on Friday, June 3, 2016. The daughter of the late Charles and Kazna (Toomey) Michael was born on April 6, 1920 in Michigan City, IN where she was raised and educated. On September 22, 1945 she married Aniese (Al) Ellis in Michigan City, IN and he predeceased her in 1999. Mary and her husband moved to Midland from Lansing, MI in 1956 and in 1964 purchased the former R & E Party store and opened the Ellis Party store until their retirement in 1970. They retired to Florida for six years and then to Arizona. Mary returned to Midland in 2011 to be closer to her family.

Mary is survived by her son Michael Ellis of Midland, daughters Patricia (Neal) Sweebe of Midland and Christine (Mark) Stokes of Crystal River, FL. She will also be missed by her grandchildren Chad Ellis, Heather Ellis (Larry Owens), Angela (Dan) Sweebe-Ware, Mary Sweebe (William Jewell), Ryan Sweebe, Whitney Stokes (Robert Ross) and great grandchildren Whitney Fitak, Bode Ellis-Meylan, Alayna Ware; special cousins, Stephanie Moody and Kim Bishop. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers Fred, Joseph, George and sisters, Faye Borane, Martha Michael and Blanche Ellis. The family would also like to express their gratitude and thanks to The Caring Place for their care and kindness afforded Mary.

The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 11:00 am Tuesday, June 7, 2016 from Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Father Kevin Maksym will officiate. Entombment will be at New Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 am until time of the Mass. Memorials may be offered to St. Jude's Hospital.
