Mary Lynn Deborski passed away peacefully early December 12, 2025 at the age of 74, in the home she made with her family. Mary was born December 19, 1950 and grew up on the family farm in southwest Kansas. After graduating from Sublette High School, she attended Colorado State University, where she met her future husband, Gary Deborski. Married June 26, 1971 in Sublette, Kansas they began their married life near his family in Louisville, Colorado. After Gary's graduation from college, they moved briefly to Santa Fe, New Mexico before moving to Midland, Michigan, where they have lived for the past 52 years.
Mary always thought of others and wanted everyone else to be taken care of first. She made her life's work to be an excellent mother to her sons, grandchildren and, frequently, their friends. Many of Mary's favorite times were family gatherings and meals. She especially loved cooking with help from her sons and grandchildren. Mary never missed an opportunity to rock a baby or spoil a child with the perfect thoughtful gift. She organized family reunions to reconnect with the many Kansas cousins she grew up with and their families. Building community through neighborhood events, breakfast with friends and volunteering was a given. Even in the last stages of her illness, she urged all around her to take good care of themselves and not worry about her.
Mary found a passion in Maui, Hawaii, often joking that she was really a Hawaiian princess. Mary and Gary found their happy place in the blue ocean and colorful reefs around Napili Bay in west Maui, returning there nearly every winter for 35 years. There they found a 'Maui Family', composed of other regular travelers from around the world and many special locals they came to love and enjoy.
To exercise her creativity she enjoyed architecture, designing beautiful interiors and gardens, collecting art that spoke to her, and discovering new recipes to cook. Her eye for design and color enhanced and beautified all of the family homes over the years. She loved most anything colored blue.
Mary is survived by her husband, Gary, her sons Christopher and Corey, her grandchildren Lauren Deborski, Ethan Deborski and Hayden DeLong, her sister Marsha Rich (Pete) and her nieces Holly Cobb and Andrea Goodman.
