Mae G. Skamelka

Mae Grace (Lewis) Skamelka, age 94 of Midland, passed away peacefully on Saturday February 4, 2017 at Medilodge in Midland. Mae and her twin sister, Faye were born to the late Leonard B. and Grace M. (VanBuren) Lewis on July 15, 1922. She grew up in Midland, worked "at the Dow" making life jackets for the Navy during World War II. While working at Dow Mae met and married John "Joe" Skamelka on November 11, 1950. He died on July 19, 1989. Together they had 3 children, Kathern Jean, Patricia Ann and Phillip Leonard.

Mae was an enthusiastic social butterfly, with a warm and contagious smile, lots of hugs and a quick wit. Her numerous nieces, nephews, friends, adopted kids/grandkids/friends will never forget her Joie de Vivre. Mae was full of life, love and everyone that met her felt it. She loved to dance, go gallivanting visiting friends and family. Mae always lit up the room and our world will be a bit darker in her absence.

She is survived by her children, grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. Mae in addition to her parents and husband, Mae was preceded in death by 11 siblings.

The family would like to thank the staff at Medilodge and Hometown Hospice for their loving care.
