Lyle Harrison Green, age 87 of Midland, died Sunday evening October 30, 2011 at the Toni and Trish House in Auburn. The son of the late Benjamin Harrison and Jennie (Histed) Green was born in Saginaw, Michigan on August 19, 1924. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Philippines and was stationed at General McArthur's headquarters in Tokyo, after the Japanese surrender in 1945. Lyle graduated from Central Michigan in 1950 and went to work in the auditing department for The Dow Chemical Company. He and his family transferred to Indianapolis in 1966 when he became controller of the former Pitman Moore Company that Dow purchased. Lyle retired from Dow, Latin America Area, Coral Gables, Florida in 1982 after 30 years of service. He enjoyed golfing, reading, going for walks and traveling. Lyle was a member of the First United Methodist Church, American Legion and Elk's Club. In 1944 Lyle married the former Betty Jean Story. She died in 1972. He then married the former Ruth Garrett in 1973.
Surviving are his wife Ruth Green; children, Jon (Frances) Green of Naperville, Illinois, Barbara Waldsmith, Nancy (Charles) Henderson all of Indianapolis, Indiana, Tom (Melissa) Green of Mt. Pleasant; six grandchildren; sisters, Ilamae Randall of Coopersville, Michigan, Meryl Pickett of Mesa, Arizona.
Funeral services for Mr. Green will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday November 3, 2011 from First United Methodist Church. Rev. Dr. Charles Keyworth will officiate. Interment will follow in Midland City Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
