Lorraine K."Lorn" Wackerle

Lorraine K. "Lorn" Wackerle, age 88 of Sanford, died Thursday evening July 2, 2015 at MidMichigan Medical Center Midland. The son of the late Joseph and Clara (Hacker) Wackerle was born on May 28, 1927 in Kawkawlin, Michigan. Lorn was a farmer most of his life farming in Auburn from 1948 till 1978 when he retired and moved to Sanford. He then went to work part time for Crop Production Service in Linwood. Lorn enjoyed playing golf, fishing, tinkering, being with people and always had a smile on his face. He and his wife wintered in Zephyr Hills, Florida for over 31 years and were members of a card club for over 50 years.


Surviving is his wife of 67 years the former Virginia L. Meylan of whom he married on April 24, 1948 in Bay City; sons, Neil (Julie) Wackerle, Lon Wackerle; daughter, Peggy McWherter of Sanford; all of Sanford, grandchildren, Christopher (Andrea) Wackerle, Jonathan Wackerle, Maddison (Clinton) Schearer; great granddaughter, Adelaide Schearer; sister, Caroline Pashak of Bay City; sister in law, Ilean Wackerle of Kawkawlin; Arlene Strefling of Midland; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Lorn was preceded in death by brothers, Clinton, Wallace (Alvina), Clare (Florine); sisters, Marilyn, Lydene (Maynard) Mammal; brothers-in-laws, George Pashak and Alvin Strefling; sister-in law, Jane Newton.


Funeral services for Lorn will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday July 7, 2015 from Open Door Baptist Church with Pastor Jody Ellis officiating. Interment will follow in Jerome Township Cemetery, Sanford. Family will receive friends at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home 4210 N. Saginaw Rd. Midland on Monday from 3 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
