Lila Mae Davis

Lila Mae Davis, age 90 of Sanford, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Kindy Care Center in Freeland. She was born November 9, 1927 in Gray, Iowa to the late Raymond C. and Kathryn Porter. She moved to Midland with her parents at 15 and graduated from Midland High School in 1945. On April 3, 1948 she married Mr. Reuel W.C. Davis in Hope. And after nearly 60 years of marriage he predeceased Lila on November 6, 2007.

Lila was a homemaker, an excellent cook and baker. She enjoyed gardening, the Upper Peninsula, traveling with grandpa, The Hill in Wolverine, and reading. The highlights of her life were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Lila leaves her children Janet Davis of Midland, Linda (James) Chapman of Sanford, and Karyl (Dennis) Heltzel of Midland; her grandchildren, Lisa (Jeff) McDougall of Sault Ste Marie, Katrina (Jimmy) Conley of Edenville, Amy (Aaron) Dunlap of Clare, Kirsten (Jim) Dunn of Coleman, Bryan (Kristin) Heltzel of Auburn, Nicholas (Jennifer) Morgan of Clare and Shannon Romanik of Midland; great grandchildren, Morgan, Emily and Katy Elliott; Rhiannon Dunlap; Izabelle and Madelyn Dunn, Porter, Forrest, Ryder, Holden, and Hayden Heltzel, Devin Kearney, Beau and Ryan Angus, Michael and Jamie Conley. In addition, Lila also cared for Laurie (Stabler) Hancock and John Stabler as children whom she remembered fondly until the end.

Lila was preceded in death by her parents, Casey and Katie Porter; the love of her life, Reuel Davis; and great granddaughter, Kenzie Mae Heltzel.

In keeping with Lila's wishes there will be no visitation or service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Kindy Care Center in Freeland. Lila's family would like to express their heartfelt thank you and appreciation to Rhoda Byler and her staff at Kindy's who provided beyond excellent care and compassion to both Reuel and Lila and their family.
