Leslie Edward Schwab

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leslie E. Schwab (Les), who left us on August 18, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on September 22, 1947, in Midland, Michigan, Les was the eldest son of the late Edward G. Schwab and Irene D. (Kroschel) Schwab. Les was a beloved husband, brother, uncle, musician, and friend who touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. 

Les was a graduate of Midland High School and pursued further education at Delta University. His professional career saw him dedicating years of service to Dow Chemical Company, from which he retired.

However, it was his passion for music that truly defined him. From the tender age of seven, Les began his musical journey, playing bass accordion at his grandfather's Triangle Tavern in Riverside, MI. A natural talent, he later transitioned to the acoustic guitar and bass guitar and graced many stages, most notably with bands such as Lady & the Tramps, Fantasia, and Steel Wheels—bands that thrilled audiences across Michigan and earned Les his rightful place as a local legend. Les was a man of many interests. His adventurous spirit led him to embrace activities like horseback riding, snowmobiling and riding Harley Davidsons. He was an enthusiast of Corvettes, had a passion for sailing, and was a fisherman and hunter. His heart belonged to the simple joys of life.

 Les was a cherished family man. Predeceased by his beloved first wife, Judith M. Schwab, he later found love again with Brenda K. (Welch) LaFountaine, whom he married on the picturesque Indian Rock Beach in Florida on April 4, 2024. Together, they built a life filled with love and shared interests. Les' brothers are Duane (Peggy) Schwab, David Schwab and Michael Schwab. His brother-in-law is Richard Welch. Les was stepfather to Natasha Carson and Richard LaFountaine and a proud uncle to Amanda (Ryan) Casanova, Melissa (Brad) Schalk, and Brett Schwab. His great-nephews and niece, Kellen, Graham, Brenden, Ella, Liam, Landon, and Bentley, will forever carry fond memories of their Uncle Les. Les is also survived by his aunts Darlene Skinner and Dorothy Farris as well as numerous cousins in both Florida and Michigan. 

Les loved his dogs Doogie, Minnie, and Loki, along with his bird Poco. They all miss him dearly. 

He was a member of the Spring Hill American Legion Post 186, Dunedin VFW, and Dunedin Eagles where he formed friendships and enjoyed camaraderie with fellow members. Les was a man whose heart was as big as his smile. He held a special bond with his cousin, Paul Farris, who stood by him through thick and thin, offering unwavering support and companionship during his final days. 

Please join the family for visitation on Friday September 18, from 10-11 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Parish, 2500 N. West River Road, Sanford MI 48657 until time of Mass at 11 a.m. at the church. Private interment of his ashes will be in St. Agnes Catholic Cemetery. A celebration of life will be scheduled in the near future. Memorial contribution may be directed to the wishes of the family

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Florida and Michigan family, those on the Kroschel family prayer chain, and especially to Paul Farris for his selfless devotion. Les will be missed more than words can express, but his spirit will live on in the music he loved the family he cherished, and the countless lives he touched.
