Leo Frederick Stebleton

November 10, 1920 — November 9, 2011

Leo F. Stebleton died peacefully in the early morning Wednesday, November 9th, 2011 a day before his 91st birthday. A longtime Midland resident, Leo was born in Haslett, MI, and also lived in Bath and Lansing, MI.

A graduate of Michigan State College with a degree in chemistry, he worked at Dow Chemical Company, Saran Wrap division, served in the US Navy, and then returned to join the upstart Dow Corning Corporation as a research chemist.

In 1941, he married Hazel Wilson and was father to two children, Michael and Pete. After Hazel's death, in March 1960, he met and married Sally Brosman in June of 1961. They had three children: Kevin, Shawn, and Michelle.

Professional memberships and activities were the American Chemical Society, founding member and treasurer of The Society of Plastics Engineering, after retirement, he served as a consultant for the Michigan Molecular Institute, and former president of MSU's Alumni Association, Midland Chapter.

He enjoyed music, playing viola in the Midland Symphony, singing in the First United Methodist Church choir, and in the Midland Center for the Arts Music Society Chorale.

His many interests included Junior Achievement, Little League, Adult Literacy teaching mathematics, Midland Camera Club, and especially the time devoted to the Kiwassee Kiwanis Children's Committee.

Leo enjoyed bowling, boating, skating, fishing, and numerous trips taken with his family.

Family members now deceased are his parents, Noah and Emma (Rostorfer) Stebleton, first wife Hazel, brothers Floyd Sr, Earl, Gale, and sister Irene.

Leo is survived by his wife Sally, brother Don, children Michael (Dorothy), Pete (Jo), Kevin (Sherry), Shawn (Mary), and Michelle, grandchildren: Carrie Sue Thoune, Jeane Marie Boynton, Scott Stebleton, Michael Stebleton, Heather Johnson, Whitney Marbut, Jacob Stebleton, and Isaac Stebleton, 10 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

The family is grateful for the loving care given by the Nursing Staff at Kings Sons and Daughters, and by Heartland Hospice Care.

Funeral services for Mr. Stebleton will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, NOVEMBER 26, 2011 from First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Pamela Buchholz officiating. Friends may call at the Wilson Miller Funeral Home on Friday (Nov. 25th) from 6-8 pm and at the church on Saturday from 1:00 pm until the time of service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Midland Center for the Arts Chorale.
