Lela V. "Dot" Shaver, age 91 of Midland died at her residence on Thursday, April 21, 2011, surrounded by her family. The daughter of the late Mike and Maude (Wale) Palmerton was born on October 7, 1919 in Toledo, Ohio. On July 31, 1943 she married Howard Shaver in Midland. Dot loved to watch baseball and golf, enjoyed years of playing cards, loved going to casinos and traveling, especially to Las Vegas. Dot was an avid bowler and enjoyed bowling with her daughters. She was inducted into the Midland Bowling Hall of Fame in 2002.
Dot is survived by her husband of 68 years, Howard; daughters, Maude "Marty" (James) Gordert of Midland and Barbara Ann Shaver of St. Louis; 3 grandchildren, Howard Van Horn, Gregg Van Horn, Barbie Jo Van Horn; 6 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren; and sister-in-law Doris Palmerton.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her brothers, Earl (Louise) Palmerton and Bud Palmerton.
Funeral service for Mrs. Shaver will be conducted at 11:00 am Tuesday, April 26, 2011 from the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home with the Reverend Wayne Shidler officiating. Interment will be in Midland Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 4 to 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to St. Jude Children's Hospital, POB 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148 Attn: Tribute Program.
