Lawrence John "Larry" Schwab, age 91, of Middleville, formally of Midland, died June 14, 2018. The son of the late George and Catherine (Commora) Schwab was born on April 11, 1927 in Midland. He was a graduate of Midland High school. Larry married Rosemarie Kober on June 2, 1951 at St. Brigid Catholic Church. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army in the occupation of Italy. Larry worked as a pipe fitter/welder at Dow Corning for 39 1/2 years, retiring in 1986. He also worked part time for Avis car rental after retiring. Larry enjoyed gardening, hunting, and especially fishing with his children/grandchildren. Larry was a long time member of Assumption B.V.M. Catholic Church in Midland, but upon moving for health reasons, he joined Holy Family Catholic Church of Caledonia. He enjoyed helping build the New Calvary cemetery chapel and the Assumption B.V.M. church addition. Larry was a member of American Legion Post 165.
Larry is survived by his children, son, Jeffrey Schwab of Middleville, and daughter, Susan Hanssen of St. Paul, MN. Also surviving are his four grandchildren, Laura (Jim) Stanford of Dallas, Tx, Michael Nelson of Dallas, TX, Nicholas Schwab of Rochester Hills, MI, and Brynn Schwab of Middleville, MI,, one step Great Grand Daughter (Taylor Stanford) along with one niece and several nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Rosemarie, on August 28, 2001 after 50 years of marriage, his parents, his son-in law (John Hanssen), brother and sister in-law (Edward/Irene Schwab), and sister and brother in-law (Irene/Robert Jezewski).
The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday June 19, 2018 from Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church with the Rite of Committal to follow in New Calvary Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Army and the Midland Area Veterans. The family will receive guests at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 12 noon until the time of service. A Christian Vigil Service will take place 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Donations can be made to Assumption B.V.M Catholic Church or Holy Family Catholic Church (Caledonia).
