Larry D. Copus D.D:S:

Larry D. Copus, DDS, age 83 of Midland passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. The son of the late Carl and Ulah (Hagel) Copus was born November 27, 1933 in Midland.

Dr. Copus graduated from Midland High School in 1952, Michigan State University in 1955 and the University of Detroit Dental School in 1959. He began his dental practice in Auburn, serving the community for over 40 years until he sold the practice in January of 2000. Dr. Copus then assisted Dr. Jeff Dulude and various family clinics until he fully retired in 2010. Dr. Copus enjoyed golf, snow skiing and winters in Florida. As a community activist, he was a past mayor of Auburn, had served on the Bay County Board of Commissioners, past president of the Bay City School Board, was instrumental in the formation of Western High School in Auburn and was the first president of the Auburn Jaycees. He was a member of the American and Michigan Dental Associations and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

Dr. Copus is survived by his wife Carolyn Arnold Keeley Copus, whom he married on March 29, 1990; sons Larry Dana (Margaret) Copus of Bermuda Dune, CA, Stephen (Kitty) Copus of Midland, Matthew (Kelly) Copus of Bay City, Dr. David (Rachelle) Copus of Saginaw; daughters Deborah (Tim) Stephens of Ludington, Shari (Mark) Maloney of Apple Valley, CA, Michele (Phil) Zmikly of Sanford; step sons Kevin Keeley of Clarkston, Kyle (Kelley) Keeley of Rochester Hills; grandchildren Kasey (Angela) Stephens, Benjamin (Kylee) Stephens, Makena Copus, Brock Copus, Sara Maloney, Katie (Daniel) Best, Allison (Brian) Gliss, Lauren Copus, J.D. Copus, Karleigh Zmikly, Kennedy Zmikly, Kassidy Zmikly, Samuel Copus, Maxwell Copus, Grace Copus, Connor Copus, Madison Copus, Griffin Copus and Parker Keeley; and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Gerald "Spud" (Nola) Copus of Lake Jackson, TX; sister in law Nancy (Michael) Anderson; and the mother of his children Agnes Gravis Bramlage. In addition to his parents, Dr. Copus was predeceased by his son Daniel Copus; brothers John "Jack" and his wife Virginia Copus and Delbert Copus; and his sister Peggy and her husband Robert Wall.

The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Father Jack Johnson officiating. The rite of Christian Burial will be held at a later date in Homer Township Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a Christian Vigil Service held at 7:00 pm. Dr. Copus will lie in state at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dr. Copus's name may be made to the Midland Salvation Army, the Midland Open Door or to the donor's choice.
