Katherine J. "Kay" Elder, 96, of Midland, MI passed away at her residence on Sunday, May 22, 2022. She was born in Flint, MI on April 30, 1926 to the late Loren & Birdeth Lash. On June 14, 1947 Kay married Charles D. Elder and they were blessed to spend 56 years together until he passed away on March 20, 2004.
After retiring from the Dow Chemical Co. Kay volunteered at the Midland Hospital (as it was known then) Gift Shop for several years, was a member of the Midland Symphony League for 50 years, was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church and was a long-time member of the P.E.O. sisterhood which supports educational opportunities for women. Kay loved playing her piano and was an accomplished quilter.
Above all, Kay loved her family. She is survived by her son Dr. Ronald (Debora) Elder, daughters Ruth Ann (Dan) Karnes and Linda (Valdis) Purins and grandchildren Michael Erdman, Travis Elder, Celeste Grover, Robin Peacock, and Katherine Howland and 4 great grandchildren. Kay was preceded in death by her husband Charles, her sister Ruth Turner and brother-in-law Jack Turner, brother-in-law James Elder, and grandchild Charlton Forrest Elder who passed away at the age of 9.
Honoring Kay's wishes, cremation has taken place and members of her family will receive friends at the Wilson-Miller Funeral Home on May 27, 2022 from 2 to 5 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Midland Symphony.
