Katharine "Kayte" Ellen Aspray

Katharine Ellen (Serumgard) "Kayte" Aspray, 72, of Bay City, died Friday, June 15, 2018, at Saginaw Covenant Cooper Hospital with her family by her side.

Kayte was born May 5, 1946 in Elmhurst, Illinois and was the daughter of the late Kime E. Aspray, Jr. and Caroline C. (Piepho) Aspray. She grew up in Yonkers, New York before moving to the Bay City area.

She graduated from SUNY at Geneseo with a Bachelor's degree in 1968 and a Master's in 1969. Her career began at WUCM-TV at Delta College as the first female TV producer in the Tri-Cities area. Kayte retired as the Associate Academic Dean from Northwood University in 2012 after 39 years with the school.

Kayte was a public service advocate. She served on the Bay City School board from 1973-1981 where she was president from 1980-1981; was President of the Board for Bay County Habitat for Humanity; Secretary of the United Methodist Church's Global Ministry from 2001 - 2016; and Chair of the Detroit Conference Liberia Task Force 2015 - 2017.

Kayte loved quilting and being a member of a group who exchanged quilt squares for different baseball teams, always supporting her beloved Detroit Tigers. Reading was another favorite hobby.

Kayte is survived by her proudest accomplishment, her two sons Guy Eric-Kime Serumgard of Ferndale, MI; and Judson Meigs Serumgard of Oak Park, MI. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Kime Christopher ("Casey") Aspray of New Jersey.
A memorial service will be held at the Auburn United Methodist Church, 207 S. Auburn Street, Auburn, MI, on Saturday, June 23, 2018. There will be a gathering from noon to 1pm, with service beginning at 1pm, followed by refreshments and fellowship time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Kayte's memory may be made to the Northwood Emergency Book Award fund, which pays for textbooks for students who are unable to purchase them (checks made to Northwood University, 4000 Whiting Drive, Midland, MI 48640); or to Bishop Judith Craig Children's Village in Liberia (checks made to Michigan Conference Treasurer, 1161 East Clark Road, Suite 212, DeWitt, MI 48820, with "BJCCV" in the memo).
