Julia M. Smith

Julia M. Smith, age 85 of Sanford, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017 at her residence. The daughter of the late John W. and Minnie E. (Fuller) Drake was born on January 29, 1932 in Midland where she was raised and educated. On October 22, 1952, she married Ted H. Smith in Midland. He preceded her in death on September 26, 1993 after 41 years of marriage. Julia worked as a house keeper for many years. She enjoyed Gardening, cooking, knitting, crocheting, sewing, reading her bible, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren.

Left to cherish Julia's memory are her sons, Ted (Kelly) Smith of Midland, Dan (Norma) Smith of Sanford; daughters, Patricia Riggie of Sanford, Peggy (Paul) Good of Sanford, Catherine Wetherell of Sanford; 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; and brother Charles Drake. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Gardella; brothers, Walter, Robert, Lawrence and John Drake; sisters, Mary McLean, Clara Drake, Josephine Norris, Joan Marr, and grandchild, Trevor Gamache.

Funeral services for Julia will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Youmans of Lighthouse Body of Christ Church officiating. Private burial will take place in Lee Township Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11:00 am until the time of service.
