John T. Murphy, age 87 of Midland, died Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at MidMichigan Medical Center. The son of the late Patrick and Frances (Curtin) Murphy was born May 4, 1931 in New York City. John was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marines serving during the Korean Conflict; receiving many commendations. He was awarded the China Service Medal, Navy Occupation Medal, Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal and the Presidential Unit Citation. John was a conductor on the railroad for over 43 years. He was an avid reader and football fan, especially the Philadelphia Eagles.
Surviving is his wife of 27 years, Jean ,of whom he married on May 17, 1991 in Bristol, PA; sons, Carl Muhs of Midland, John Muhs of Beaverton; grandchildren, Thomas Muhs of Baltimore, MD, Lauren Muhs of Melbourne, Australia, Amanda Wargo of Trenton, NJ; great grandchildren, Steven and Morgan; sister, Mary Cilurso of Mt. Arlington, NJ; many nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 22, 2018, from Assumption of the BVM Catholic Church with Father Joe Griffin officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of Mass. He will be laid to rest in Brigadier General Wm C. Doyle Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in New Jersey at a later date.
