John M. Hinson, age 87 of Midland, passed away on Tuesday August 14, 2018 at Woodland House in Mt. Pleasant. The son of the late Euel G. and Agnes C. (Neville) Hinson was born in Glasgow, Missouri on March 26, 1931 but was raised and educated in Amour, South Dakota. He served with the United States Army during Korean Conflict. John had been employed with The Dow Chemical Co. until his retirement in 1985 after 33 ½ years of service. John was a member of Chapel Lane Presbyterian Church, and Onaway United Methodist Church, American Legion Berryhill Post 165, D.A.V., Life member of Free and Accepted Masons Midland Centre Lodge 273, where he was a 32nd Degree Mason; Bay City Consistory and Scottish Rite. On March 21, 1953 John married the former Mary Martin and after 59 years of marriage she died on November 1, 2012. Together John and Mary enjoyed wintering in Mesa, Arizona and summers in Black Lake, Michigan.
Surviving are his sons, James Hinson of Houston, Texas, David Hinson of Midland; daughter, Laura (William) Morgan of Houston, Texas; daughter in law, Cheryl Hinson of Midland; grandchildren, Ben (Erika), Philip, Matt, Quin, Abby Hinson, Josh (Jennifer) Sprague, Keaton Olson,; great grandchildren, Connor and Elliot Hinson, Emily, Alexis & Elle Sprague, Liam and Mila Hinson; sister, Jeanne Bradley; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by his son, Kent Hinson; half-brothers, Howard, Charles, Robert, Laris, and Harold "Buck" Hinson.
Funeral services for John will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday August 21, 2018 at Chapel Lane Presbyterian Church with Rev. Rhonda Meyers officiating. Interment will follow in Midland City Cemetery with Military Honors being provided by the U.S. Army and the Midland Area Veterans. Family will receive guests at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home on Monday from 4 until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A Masonic memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be offered to Chapel Lane Presbyterian Church, Shriner's Hospital for Children or the organization of one's choice. The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Candlestone Assisted Living and Masonic Pathway's , especially the 2nd floor staff at Masonic Pathways for the special and wonderful care given to John and his family every day he lived there.
