Our beloved friend and relative, Jill L. Freeland, left us for a better place on Saturday, May 31, 2025. She was born in Lapeer, MI on My 13, 1959 to John and Margaret Freeland. She graduated from Columbiaville High School and pursued further education. Earning a BSW from Eastern Michigan University, followed by an MSW from Wayne State University.
Jill Worked for many years in mental health, advocating tirelessly for her consumers. She was much more than an outpatient therapist. She did everything she could to get her people hired, housed and healthy. As a co-worker, she had a wicked sense of humor and could always liven up the office with her flying duck slingshot or fake snowball gun. She laughed a lot and made those around her feel special. On her birthday this year, she was overwhelmed by the outpouring of love shown her by her former work partners that all come out to celebrate with her.
Jill is predeceased by her parents and several relatives. She is survived by her brothers, David and Dan Freeland, Stepmother Sally Freeland, and too many friends and relatives to list. She loved all of you, and she spoke of you frequently. To know Jill was to love her. She never ran out of compassion for others who were struggling, and her love of animals was unrivaled. She was truly one of a kind and she will never be forgotten.
Arrangements are being completed for cremation by Wilson MILLER Funeral Home in Midland. In lieu of a funeral, a private memorial gathering will be planned for a time this summer, so that we can all gather and show photos and tell Jill stories. Per her wishes, Jill will be buried at a private service with the pets she has had in her life and loved so much.
Memorial contributions may be done on line in her name to her favorite charity: Best Friends Animal Sanctuary https://bestfriends.org/donate.
