Jane F. McGuire, 85, of Midland MI, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 10, 2015, from complications of cancer.
Jane was born on April 19, 1930, in Fort Madison, Iowa, to the late Jay and Irma (Pickard) Felgar. During her childhood years, she lived in Fort Madison, Iowa and often visited her grandparents' farm. For a few years, she resided in Glendale, Arizona, while her father struggled with health issues. Upon his passing, she returned with her mother and siblings, Joy (Felgar) Wood and George Felgar (both pre-deceased) to Fort Madison, Iowa. She attended Fort Madison High School, and especially enjoyed playing the saxophone in the high school marching band.
After graduating from high school, Jane returned to Glendale, Arizona to attend nursing training at Good Samaritan Hospital. After graduation, she completed various nursing assignments in the west before returning to Iowa. Deciding to return to college, she was accepted at Purdue University, in West Lafayette, IN, where she also was employed at Lafayette's Home Hospital as a surgical nurse. During her college years, Jane was initiated into the Alpha Eta chapter of Alpha Xi Delta, and lived in the sorority house on campus. During that time, she met her future husband, Edwin W. McGuire, and they were married on April 10, 1954.
Jane and Ed made their home in Lafayette, Indiana, where they raised their three children. In addition to being active and supportive of her children's many activities, Jane continued to be involved in the Purdue chapter of Alpha Xi Delta, serving on the executive board and assisting in many ways. She also especially loved attending Purdue football games and watching the Purdue marching band.
When her husband retired, Jane and Ed relocated to Midland MI, where she was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed attending performances at the Midland Center for the Arts, visiting the Dow Gardens, and watching her grandsons march in the Dow high school band. She especially enjoyed the times when her granddaughter, Emily would come to visit for a week in the summer. Jane was a 67 year member of PEO, and throughout the years enjoyed the friendship and camaraderie of the chapter members.
Jane is survived by her daughter, Tina (Thomas) Ludington of Sanford, sons Timothy (Judy) McGuire, of Collierville, TN, and Stephen (Dean Caputo)McGuire of Beverly Hills, MI; and her grandchildren J.T. Ludington, Chris Ludington and Emily McGuire.
Funeral Services for Jane McGuire will be conducted at 11:00 am Monday September 14, 2015 at First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dr. J. D. Landis officiating. A private interment will follow at the Midland City Cemetery. Visitation with be at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
