James D. Whalen, age 68 of Midland, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at the Toni & Trish House in Bay County, MI. The son of the late Linton and Flora (Rice) Whalen he was born on December 26, 1947 in Wayne County, MI. James married Judy McKinnon on November 26, 1976. James served his country with the U.S. Air Force '˜67-'70 and the U.S. Army National Guard '˜77-'94. He served overseas in Germany and the Desert Shield / Storm conflict. He enjoyed his 32 years working at Dow Chemical as an electrician. James was a member of VFW post 3651, The American Legion post 443, The Moose Lodge 2276, The Midland Sportsmen's Club, and the N.R.A. He was also very active in providing military honors with the Midland Area Veterans.
James is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Judy; son, Jeremy (Marsha) Whalen; daughters, Melody Bunting and Tina Frayer; grandchildren, Steve, Scott (Kim), Joshua (Jynie), Kay (Jeoff), Jonathan, and Elijah; Seven great grandchildren; and brother, Patrick. He was preceded in death by sister, LuAnn.
Per James's wishes, cremation has taken place and the celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at the Moose Lodge in Midland 2100 Bay City road with dinner to follow.
Memorials in James' name may be offered to the Toni & Trish House. Arrangements are under the care of the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home where personal messages of condolence may be offered to the family at www.wilson-miller.com
