James J. Mahoney, Jr.

March 10, 1926 — December 15, 2014

James J. Mahoney, Jr. age 88 of Midland died Monday December 15, 2014. The son of the late James J. and Eleanor (Rice) Mahoney Sr. was born on March 10, 1926 in Albany, New York where he was raised and educated. James served in the US Navy during WWII and received the American Theatre Medal, Victory Medal and Asiatic Pacific Medal. On May 26, 1956 he married the former Marie R. Ryan in Albany, NY and moved to Midland in 1968 where he was self-employed prior to working at Adam's Craft in design and engineering. He later worked for Dow Corning as a contractor, retiring in 1992. James was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and was an avid model builder of boats, air planes and cars.

James is survived by his wife of 58 years Marie; sons James (Dana) Mahoney of Midland, Christopher (Melissa) Mahoney of Las Vegas, NV; daughters, Maureen (Scott) Legg of Augusta, Georgia and Susan (Tim) Craig of Midland; grandchildren Melinda, Trevor, Kirstin, Quintin, Kandace, John, Giselle, Samantha, Summer, Noah; nine great grandchildren; sister Kathy Hurlburt of Albany, NY and several nieces and nephews.
James was predeceased by brothers, John Mahoney, Tom Mahoney and sister Eleanor Sullivan

The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 am Friday December 19, 2014 from Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Father Kevin Maksym officiating. The Rite of Committal will follow in New Calvary Cemetery with military rites under the auspices of the U.S. Navy and the Midland Area Veterans.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home with a Christian Vigil Service held at 7:00 pm. Mr. Mahoney will lie in state at the church on Friday from 9:00 am until time of Mass.
