Jack Duane "Pooch" Babcock, 78, of Midland died Thursday, July 23, 2009 at MidMichigan Medical Center after a lengthy illness. The son of the late Clifford and Ethel (Wray) Babcock was born September 5, 1930 in Midland where he was raised and educated. Jack served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War; and was a firm believer in patriotism. He married Carolyn Tyrrell in Midland on May 28, 1977. Jack worked as a pipefitter for the Dow Chemical Company for 21 years and then for UA Local #85 (plumbers and pipefitters) Union until he retired in 1984. He then worked 12 years as a ranger for Currie Golf Course. Jack was an avid sportsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and softball. He was a member of the Polka Dot Motorcycle Club and raced at Jack Pine Motorcycle Races. He attended Seasons Senior Services and was a member of Sanford American Legion #443. Jack's greatest love was his family.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Carolyn; children, Kirk Babcock (Stephen Patrick) of Tennessee, Jeri (Rick) Overly of Midland, Ginger (Dennis) Yarch of Shepherd, Gena Zandbergen of Dundee, David (Lori) Clark of Sanford, Brian (Cindy) Clark of Midland and Beth Clark (Rose Antrim) of Rockford; grandchildren, Jay, Bridget, Tina, Rick, Jason, Jennifer, Jessica, Jack, Brandi, Jaimee, Austin and Brian; great grandchildren, Ethan, Lauren, Aubri, Ayden, Keenan, Zack,Josh, Eric, Robbie, Tanner, Zack, Dakota, and Makayla; sisters, Erma Riggie of Midland and Ginger (Bob) Kruger of Midland; sisters and brothers in law, Bonna (Joe) Maly of California, Merland Tyrrell of Midland, Betty (Marvin) Batch of Arizona, Donald (Marsha) Tyrrell of Florida, Gary (Sharron) Tyrrell of Midland and Richard (Lynne) Tyrrell of Bay City; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by his daughter, Cindy; mother and father in law, Robert & Perlis Tyrrell; brother in law, Don Riggie; and brother and sister in law, Shirley and Jim Stark.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, July 27, 2009 from the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home with the Reverend Lyn Frazier of Gordonville United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Midland Memorial Gardens with military rites under the auspices of the Midland Area Veterans and the U.S. Army Funeral Guard. Family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm and on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Memorials may be offered to Gordonville United Methodist Church, Seasons Senior Services or Sanford American Legion.
