John Stuart Hinkins, age 70 of Coleman, died Monday January 21, 2013 at MidMichigan Medical Center. The son of the late Stuart G. and Bernice M. (Davis) Hinkins was born in Flint on July 6, 1942. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Stuart's life was working with horses of many different breeds. He was involved with the Michigan 4 H, a life member of the Michigan Quarter Horse Association of which he served as Vice President, and the American Quarter Horse Association. Stuart was also a judge for the American Quarter Horse Association and many other breeds.
   
   
   Surviving is his wife of 42 years the former Susan J. Gonyaw of whom he married on June 19, 1970; brother, Stan (Denise) Hinkins of Millersburg, Michigan; nephews, Kirk and Brian; great nieces, Chelsea and Samantha. In addition to his parents, Stuart was preceded in death by brothers, Clyde & Steve Hinkins and niece Dana Hinkins.
   
   
   Per Stuart's wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no services. Memorials may be offered to the Michigan 4 H Foundation Horse Program 240 Spartan Ave East Lansing, Michigan 48824.
