Harold (Harry) J. Mohr, 99 of Midland, died July 14, 2025, in the company of his loving family. He was born in Saginaw on August 24, 1925, to the late Jacob and Catherine (Ryle) Mohr. Harry married Berniece (Sonsmith) on November 6, 1948, at St. Brigid Church, Midland. Together Harry and Berniece raised two sons.
Harry left high school and joined the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served 1943-1946 as a Radioman in the Pacific Theatre, especially in The Invasion of Okinawa. Harry took great pride in his service and enjoyed talking about his ship, LCS(L)-19.
Harry and his wife owned the Mohr Carpet Company. Harry loved dancing with his favorite dance partner, playing cribbage and Texas Hold'em whenever possible. An avid deer hunter, Harry spent time in the woods at the Ironsides Hunting Camp. In 2019, Harry was awarded his High School Diploma from the Saginaw School District. Harry was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and the American Legion. He participated in the Mid-Michigan Honor Flight, Mission XIII in June of 2022. Harry never met a stranger and had a great sense of humor.
He is survived by children, Daniel J. (Connie) Mohr of Midland, and Richard E. (Susan) Mohr of Midland; seven beloved grandchildren, Laura M (Ashur) Hillman of Port Huron, Elisabeth Mohr (Mark McGinn) of Westmont, Illinois, Jennifer (David Cadman) Griswold of Gobles, Jacob Mohr of Palm Springs, California, Emily Mohr of Chicago, Illinois, Eric (Kara) Mohr of Midland and Matthew (Alicia) Mohr of Richfield, Minnesota, great-grandchildren Jillian and Jana Mohr and Rosalynn Mohr, and special friend Janet Sayranian of Sanford. His wife Berniece predeceased him in 2007, as well as two sisters and a brother.
The Funeral Liturgy for Harry will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church, 207 Ashman St. Midland, MI 48640. Fr. Rob Howe will officiate with private burial to take place next to his wife in Great Lakes National Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Luncheon information will be available at the mass. Memorial contributions may be offered to the Midland VFW Post 3651.
