Gilbert Lewis Bye

Gilbert Lewis Bye, age 79, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2026, in Auburn, Michigan. He was born on April 13, 1947, in Reed City, Michigan, to the late Lewis and Arlene (Mann) Nunn.

Gilbert is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Jane Bye; his daughters, Sunny (Clint) Clark and Robin (Dale Jr.) Liphard; and the grandchildren he adored, Hunter (Emmalyn) Clark, Chance (Malorie) Cornwell, Colter Liphard, Gabriella Jane Liphard, and Carson Clark. He is also survived by his siblings, Sharon Loper of Clare, Michigan, Jack (Sharon) Nunn of Houston, Texas, Robert (Sandy) Nunn of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, Debra Nunn of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, and Denise (Bob) Wojtaszek of Bellevue, Nebraska, as well as his best friend and brother-in-law, Pat Taylor.

Gilbert will be remembered for the deep love he held for his family and for the pride he took in being a grandfather. Spending time with his grandchildren was his greatest joy. They fondly remembered his pancakes and often spoke of the fishing skills they learned from their grandpa, memories that will remain a lasting part of his legacy and of the memories his family will continue to hold close.

Gilbert also had a deep appreciation for nature and enjoyed hunting and many outdoor activities, especially when he could share them with his family. He was, in every sense, a nature-kind of guy, and the outdoors remained an important part of his life.

An avid sportsman, Gilbert was a member of the Hiawathe Sportsmen Club and the Midland Sportsman Club. He was also a past member of the Gladwin Sportsmen's Club, as well as the NRA and MUCC.

Per Gilbert's wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions in his honor may be made to Toni and Trish House, 4699 11 Mile Rd, Auburn, MI 48611. The Bye family is being cared for by Wilson Miller Funeral Home.
