Gilbert S. Brewer, 89 of Sanford, passed away Tuesday morning, April 27, 2010 at the Toni & Trish House.
The son of the late Earl and Beatrice (White) Brewer was born November 7, 1920 in Brethren and graduated from Norman Dixon High School in 1940. After moving to Midland he served in the US Air Corps during WWII as an engineer mechanic.
He then worked for the Dow Chemical Company as a journeyman mechanic for 18 years while furthering his education. He was a member of the National Alliance of Television and Electronics Service Association. In 1951 he owned and operated Brewer Radio and TV Sales and Service. After moving his business to Sanford, in 1965, he also drove school bus for Meridian Public Schools for 10 years, then started Brewer Upholstery and Furnace Repair.
Gilbert is survived by his children, Jerry Brewer of Sanford, Jon (Sally) Brewer of Coleman, Jim Brewer of Midland, and Judy Brewer of Sanford; daughters in law, Janice Green of Littleton, CO, Linda Barkell of Bay City, Tami Klouse of Sanford; brother, Eugene (Marthea) Brewer of Brethren; -10- grandchildren, Scott Brewer, Tracey (Bob) Koehlers, Angie (Scott) Larkin, Jamie (Shannon) Brewer, Beth Brewer, Sara Brewer, Kellie (Dave) Caldwell, Jeffrey Brewer, Jacquelyn Brewer, Jessica Finny; -11- great grandchildren, Talon Jezewski, Dylan and Leyi Brewer, Savannah and Hunter Koehlers, Morgan Riley, Ethen Larkin, Ben and Klaire Caldwell and Brayden Harsh; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Lila Booth and Betty Dopp; and all the kind friends at "Seasons".
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Jeffery; brother, Delmar (Helen) Brewer; sister, Elaine (Mike) Arguilla; brother in law, Robert Draves; and nephew, Mike Draves.
Funeral and committal services for Mr. Brewer will be conducted at 11:00 am, Friday, April 30, 2010 from the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home with Reverend Wayne Shidler of Heartland Hospice officiating. Interment will be in Sanford Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted under the auspices of the Midland Area Veterans and the US Army Funeral Honors Guard.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-6 pm and on Friday from 10:00 am until the service.
Memorials may be offered to the Toni and Trish House or the Senior Services of Midland County.
