Gertrude A. Shawver

September 18, 1909 — February 8, 2009

Gertrude A. Shawver, age 99 of Midland, died Sunday February 8, 2009 at MidMichigan Medical Center. The daughter of the late Paul O. and Olive (Ames) Noeske was born in Midland on September 18, 1909. She attended schools in Midland and graduated from Midland High School in 1927 as Valedictorian of her class. In 1931 Gertrude graduated from Michigan State College with a Bachelors of Science in home economics. She was an honorary member of Omicron PU Phi and Phi Kappa Phi Sororities. Gertrude taught home economics in East Jordon, Mi for one year and was a substitute teacher in the Midland Public School District. On September 9, 1932 in Bay City Gertrude married William R. "Red" Shawver. He died on December 2, 1992. She will always be remembered for her love of gardening. In 1991 she was presented with a certificate of appreciation and beautification award by the City of Midland. Gertrude was a charter member of the Contemporary Review Club and Midland Garden Club.

Surviving are her son, Paul Shawver of Dearborn, Michigan; daughter, Gretchen Shawver Scoles of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; grandchildren, Kat Vercruyssen, Nicole Kram and Jason Shawver; great grandchildren, Aaron Oswald, Laura Mason, Austin, Spencer and Hunter Kram.

Funeral and committal services will take place 1:30 p.m. Thursday February 12, 2009 from Wilson MILLER Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. Brent L. McCumons of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Midland City Cemetery. Visiting hours will held at the funeral home on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
