Gertrude Brom

Gertrude Brom, age 93 of Midland, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Cascades Senior Living. The daughter of the late William and Martha (Kooi) Rietman was born February 7, 1924 in Grand Rapids where she was raised and educated. On March 18, 1944, she married Robert Brom. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1999 after 55 years of marriage. In 1986, Gertrude moved to her cottage at Big Star Lake, Baldwin. She then moved to Midland in 1999 where she was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Surviving are her children, Robert (Dana) Brom of Greenville, Michigan, Connie Boruta of Allouez, Michigan, and Roberta (John) VanHolstyn of Sanford; 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Gertrude was preceded in death by daughters, Cindy & Wendy; son in law, Richard Boruta; grandson, Noah Brom; 2 brothers and a sister.

Funeral services for Gertrude will take place at 11:00 am on Friday, March 24, 2017 from the Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Dan Dickerson officiating. Family will receive friends at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 pm and again on Friday at the church from 10 am until the time of service. Private burial will be in Washington Park Memorial Gardens in Grand Rapids. Memorials in Gertrude's name may be offered to the Calvary Baptist Academy.
