Gertrud B. Brecht

Dr. Gertrud Brecht, age 93 of Midland died Friday, October 25, 2013.

She was born June 18, 1920 to the late Friedrich Wilhelm and Borghild (Engvoldsen) Goebel in Larvik, Norway moving to Germany as a child. In 1948 Dr. Brecht completed her medical studies in Freiburg, Germany. She married Hans Brecht in Canada and immigrated to the United States in 1951, settling in Huntington, West Virginia where their son, Thoralf was born. After moving to Cincinnati, Ohio she completed her residency and practiced medicine from 1957 to 1978 at the Meeker Clinic, General Hospital and her own private practice.
Following the death of her husband in 1985, Gertrud moved to Maxwellton, West Virginia. In 2001, she moved to Midland, Michigan to be closer to her son.

Whether it was the Alps of Germany, the mountains of their camp in West Virginia or the trees of her back yard in Midland, Michigan, she enjoyed the mountains and outdoors.
Dr. Brecht maintained her medical license and medical memberships until her death.

She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Thoralf and Karen Brecht of Midland.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Ingeborg Goebel of Bad Reichenhall, Germany.

Funeral and committal services for Dr. Brecht will be conducted at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 from the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Youmans of Lighthouse Body of Christ Church officiating. Interment will be in Oakhill Cemetery, Cincinnati, Ohio.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 pm until the time of service.
