Midland

Geraldine May Fisher of Midland, died peacefully on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Independence Village in Midland, Michigan. Jeri, as she was affectionately known to her friends and family, was the daughter of William Johnson and Amelia (Kowaleski) Johnson. She was born on September 20, 1922, in Pinconning, Michigan, and was raised by Amelia and her stepfather, Joseph Foco.

Jeri Fisher, a resilient woman, personified strength with humility and grace.  Having earned her registered nursing license, she fearlessly joined the United States Women's Army Corps in 1945. She served in World War II stationed in the Philippines and Osaka, Japan, where she cared for many of the boys, as she would later say.  Her dedication and service during that time reflect the courage and compassion that defined her life.

After the war, she worked as a nurse at Bay City Mercy until marrying Jim Fisher in 1950. They were married for 62 years until Jim's death in 2013. Throughout those years, she dedicated her time to raising their three children and actively contributed to her community. Jeri volunteered at Midland Hospital and frequently staffed phone banks to support Bullock Creek School District millage proposals.

Jeri wholeheartedly devoted herself to her husband, Jim Fisher, and their surviving children, John J. Fisher, JW (Yvonne) Fisher, Ann Marie Fisher (Glenn Schwitter). Her legacy is further enriched by ten grandchildren, Jackson Fisher, Hoback Fisher, Axel Fisher, JD Cheskaty, John W. Fisher, Samuel Fisher, Hannah (Zachary) Osmanski, Claire Bonti (Justin Canning), Jameson (Jennifer) Bonti and Reilly Curtis; one great-granddaughter Amelia Canning-Bonti. She also leaves behind a multitude of beloved nieces and nephews spanning from Bay City to Ohio and Indiana.

Jeri was preceded in death by her husband, James O. Fisher, along with her dear sisters JoAnn (Bill) Yaden, Carol (Bob) Morgan, and her brothers Fred (Jane) Foco, and Ernie Foco. Surviving sister-in-law Beth Foco.

Although her absence leaves an immeasurable void, we honor and treasure the enduring impact she had on our lives.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the exceptional and compassionate staff of Independence Village and Storypoint, whose dedication and care brought comfort to Jeri. Additionally, heartfelt thanks to Kalena, Jeri's cherished helper whose kindness and companionship enriched and brightened Jeri's final years.

A private ceremony to celebrate Jeri's life will be held with immediate family only.

In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are kindly asked to consider contributions to Independence Village of Midland for the Life Enrichment Fund, or to the First Methodist Church of Midland where Jeri was a devoted member.
