George W. Ursuy, age 89 of Gladwin, beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother & friend, passed away Friday January 12, 2024 at MyMichigan Medical Center in Midland with family by his side. The son of the late John and Armella (Faeth) Ursuy was born in Saginaw on February 8, 1934.
George graduated from St. Mary's school in Saginaw, and then served in the United States Army where he was posted in Germany. When his tour of duty ended, he went on to get a Master's Degree from Michigan State University. After college, George was employed by the City of Flint, and finished his long career as the Director of Community Development & Urban Renewal. His hobbies included fishing, football, hockey, woodcarving, playing cards, and treasure hunting with his trusty metal detector.
Surviving is his wife, the former Marilyn Beckman Ursuy; children, Susan (Thomas) Tighe, Jane Craft, Jenifer (Robert) Johnson, John (Lisa) Ursuy, Rosemary (Scott) Nitzschke, Tina Cohen, Sharon Aldred, Jere Dean Aldred; brother, Joseph (Judy) Ursuy; sister, Catherine (David) Banaszek; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his daughters, Theresa Ursuy, Tammy Aldred; son, Jimmy Aldred; brothers, Paul Ursuy, Michael Ursuy; sisters, Mary Martinez, Agnes Ursuy.
Memorial Mass will be held at Saint Brigid Catholic Church, on Ashman St. in downtown Midland, at 11:00 AM, on Friday January 19th. Family will receive guests at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Military Funeral Honors will be provided by the United States Army after the service
