Gary R. Wittbrodt, age 73 of Midland, died Saturday morning December 6, 2008 at Tendercare in Clare. The son of the late Albert and Clara (Gibas) Wittbrodt was born in Auburn on September 6, 1935 where he was raised and educated. Gary served in the United States Army. He was employed as a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1990 after 37 years of service. On January 15, 1971 in Midland Gary married the former Janet Zimmerman. He enjoyed fishing on the Saginaw Bay, playing softball, riding bikes and motor scooters, bowling and traveling.
Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Janet Wittbrodt; son, Allen (Laura) Wittbrodt of Midland; daughter, Julie (Dan) Stambek of St. Louis, Missouri; Step son, Mickey Sparks of Midland; step daughter, Roberta (Marc) Engebretsen of Cadillac; grandchildren, Crystal Lewis, Noah and Madison Wittbrodt; brother in law, George Jezowski; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by brothers, Elmer and Ted Wittbrodt; sisters, Mary Jane Gushow and Elaine Jezowski.
Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday December 11, 2008 at Wilson MILLER Funeral Home with Pastor Fred Becknell of Midland Missionary Church officiating. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 am until the time of service. Memorial may be offered to Huntington's Disease Society of America Michigan Chapter.
