Gary W. Tolman, age 65 of Sanford, died Tuesday morning October 20, 2015, surrounded in love by his family, at MidMichigan Medical Center, Midland. The son of the late Lee J. and Bernice M. (Jenson) Tolman was born in Marquette, Michigan on May 31, 1950. Gary served in the United States Army first being stationed in Korea and then serving in the Vietnam War when he was awarded the Purple Heart on April 1, 1970. He was the owner of Gary's Fence Service and had previously worked for Midland Fence. Gary loved quading with is family and friends, was a member of Sanford Eagles Lodge #3677 and Harrison Moose Lodge #2235.
Surviving is his wife of 42 years the former Karen S. Erskine of whom he married on November 24, 1972 in Midland; his daughters, Lori Tolman and fiancé Shawn Pielecha of Lansing, Sherry Tolman of Midland; sisters, Cora Lemieux of Marquette, Rosie Bowns of Gladstone, Evelyn Bourdon of Medford, OR; and many in-laws, nieces & nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents Gary was preceded in death by brothers, Steve and Gordon "Buddy" Tolman; sisters, Shirley Northrup, Gordice Bigger and Barbie Landers and close friend Dwight "Whitey" Toner.
A Celebration of Gary's Life will take place 2:00 p.m. SATURDAY NOVEMBER 7, 2015 at Sanford Eagles. Family will receive friends at the Eagles from 1pm until the time of service. Military honors will be provided by the U.S Army Funeral Honors and the Midland Area Veterans. Memorials may be offered to the families wishes.
