Fred A. Smith

October 25, 1937 — March 28, 2013

Fred Anthony Smith passed away on March 28, 2013 at the MidMichigan Hospital in Midland, Michigan with his son, Tony, by his side. Fred was born in Tooele, Utah to Rudolph John Smith and Anna Grgich Smith on October 25, 1937. He is survived by his son Tony Smith and step-daughter Jodi Powell; brother Sid Smith (Candi); stepbrother Brent Eggett (Nelda); sister Connie Wielatz (Bob); grandchildren Gretchen, Jon, and Chace , nieces and nephews Cathy, Julie, Suzan, Karen, Steven, Debbie, David, Jason; and special friends Marv Lee and Dave Czerney. He was predeceased by his parents and daughter Robyn Scheid. Fred worked for and retired from Dow Chemical as a toxicologist. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and berry and morel mushroom gatherer. He made (and drank) excellent wine and canned fish, elk, venison, and soups. Fred planned and built his house. He loved spending time there watching the birds and animals near his pond he dredged himself and stocked with fish. Fred was a fantastic writer. If you were lucky enough to receive a letter from him, you would chuckle for days. Fred was a born psychic. Because of this, he became involved with many spiritual groups. He passed all the requirements to become a master psychic. He had a great interest in alternative medicines and became a Reiki Master. He was also our go-to-expert on vitamins and alternative medicines and herbs. Fred believed in putting food away in case of a future crisis or economic downturn, not necessarily for himself, but to be prepared to help others. Many thanks to all Fred's friends, neighbors, and all those who were there for Fred through the years (you know who you are) and those who cared for Fred in his final days.
