Fred John Berlin, 87, of Midland died Monday, August 10, 2009 at his home.
The son of the late Fred A. and Emma I. (Schaefer) Berlin was born May 5, 1922 in Midland where he was raised and educated.
Fred served with the U.S. Army during WWII. On October 11, 1947 he married the former Marie Ann Kocisky in Midland. Fred worked as a welder for the Dow Chemical Company, retiring in 1981. He enjoyed working in his garden, hunting, fishing and camping but he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Fred is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Marie; son, Larry (Angie) Berlin of Gardena, California; -8- grandchildren; -9- great grandchildren; -1- great great granddaughter; and sister, Alice Owens of Midland. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sons, Fred Jr. and Steven; and brother, Carl.
Funeral and committal services for Mr. Berlin will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 14, 2009 from Our Savior Lutheran Church with the Reverend Larry Wright officiating. Military service will be the auspices of the Midland Area Veterans and the U. S. Army Honors Guard. Interment will be in Lee Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm and at the church on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be offered to Our Savior Lutheran Church or MidMichigan Home Care (Hospice).
