Frank LeRoy Cooper, age 97 of Midland, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022 at his home. The son of the late Roy and Edith (DeLong) Cooper was born July 7, 1924 in Ithaca. He served his country honorably with the United States Army during World War II. On November 30, 1944, Frank married the former Birdie Brandt in Midland. They shared 63 years together before her passing in January of 2008.
Frank worked with the Dow Chemical Company as a pipefitter and retired in 1979 after 35 years of service. He was a Boy Scout leader and will be remembered most for his love of birds. Frank raised just about every kind of bird with his favorites being peacocks, pheasants, and geese.
Surviving is his son, Richard (Elaine) Cooper of Bay City; grandchildren, Sandy (James) Vitek, Michelle (Shawn) Neering, Stephanie Cooper, Richard (Kelly) Cooper, Frank Cooper, Clint (Kristen) Taylor, and Chris Charville (Lloyd); 15 great grandkids and 5 great-great grandkids; son in-law, Ron Piland; sister in-law, Norma Cooper; and brother in-law, Gilbert Bihn.
In addition to his parents and wife, Frank was preceded in death by his children, Roger Allen Cooper, Dean Jeffery Copper, and Joanne Louise Piland; grandchildren, Jeffrey Taylor and Danette Cooper-Thomas; and siblings, Norris Cooper, David Cooper, Phyllis Bihn, Evelyn Hartung, and Vada Bihn.
There will be a private graveside service held with burial to be with his family in Lee Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be offered to Mid-Michigan Home Care and Hospice, 3007 N. Saginaw Rd. Midland, MI 48640.
