Florence J&Gofton (Flo), age 90 of Midland passed away Monday morning April 26, 2021 at the MidMichigan Medical Center, Midland. The daughter of the late John and Florence (Hazelett) McCreight was born in Arnold, Pennsylvania on August 22, 1930. Flo moved to Midland in 1943 and was a 1948 graduate of Midland High School. She had been employed with The Dow Chemical Company until retiring in 1990 after 27 years of service. Flo was a member of First United Methodist Church, Midland, former member of Tawas United Methodist Church, the Methodist Women, American Business Women Association, Order of Amaranth, Bay City Order of the Eastern Star #217, Tawas Order of the Eastern Star #71, former Past Guardian of the International Order of Job's Daughters and a 4-H Leader. On December 30, 1950 in Midland, Flo married Bob Gofton and after 64 years of marriage he died on June 13, 2015.
After retirement Flo and Bob moved to the Tawas area and returned to Riverside Place in Midland in 2014. She was active in social activities during herresidence at Riverside; being on several committees and creating the group of "Dancing with the Stars" followers. Flo loved making and being friends, which she had many. She held a special place in her heart for family; children, grandchildren, great grandchildrenand all her niecesand nephews both in Michigan and out of state. Her love for family and friends was never ending and she certainly will be remembered by all she came in contact with.
Surviving Flo are her children, Jim (Deb) Gofton of Midland, JoAnn (Toby) Varner of Hope, Peggy(Jeff) Nelson of Harlen, Indiana; 8 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Flo was preceded in death by a grandson, Tyler Gofton; brothers, John and Ralph McCreight.
Funeral services for Flo will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday May 8, 2021 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jung Eun Yum officiating. Family will receive guests at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home on Friday May 7, 2021 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church or Multiple Sclerosis (Peggy's Pirates).
