Evelyn L. (Hettinger) Bassett

June 17, 1922 — September 12, 2011

Evelyn L. (Hettinger) Bassett, age 89 of Midland, died Monday morning September 12, 2011 at her residence. The daughter of the late Clarence and Thelma (Hammond) Hetteinger was born in Shaftsburg, Michigan on June 17, 1922 where she attended schools and graduated from Perry High School in 1942. Evelyn was a member of Mt. Haley Church of God and where she served as the church secretary, and assisted with Sunday school and the youth group. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cross stitch, traveling and shopping. Evelyn also enjoyed helping with taking old residence to their appointments. In 1943 Evelyn married Robert Stone. He was killed January 9th, 1945 in the battle of the Bulge during World War II. Then on May 20, 1946 she married Earl Bassett. He died in July of 1994. Evelyn enjoyed her family and friends and seeing her grandchildren.

Surviving are her sons, Brigg (June) Stone of Hemlock, Rick (Lorena) Bassett of Davisburg, Michigan; grandchildren, Colonial Troy (Lisa) Stone, Tracy (Dr. Gary) Lobel; great grandchildren, Spencer, Julia and Parker Stone, Blake, Austin and Andrew Lobel; half sister, Arlesta Hettinger of East Lansing; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by sister, Elizabeth Beckhorn.

Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Friday September 16, 2011 from Mt. Haley Church of God. Rev. David Aukerman will officiate. Interment will be in Midland Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
