Ethel Jean Carroll, age 87 of Midland, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Cartwright Care Center in Saginaw. The daughter of the late Raymond and Maggie Baker was born in Chicago on November 16, 1929. On November 23, 1948, Ethel married Kenneth R. Carroll. He preceded her in death on November 5, 1995 after 47 years of marriage.
She played for in the Dow Symphony Orchestra and the Dow Band, then the Midland Symphony Orchestra for 37 years. Ethel worked for five and a half years at Airport Gift Shop, eighteen years at the Holiday Inn, the gift shop in Valley Plaza for several years and most recently as a manager for the French Quarter Apartments. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Midland and enjoyed traveling and music.
Ethel is survived by her sons, Jeffery (Kathy) Carroll of Midland, Phillip (Diana) Carroll of Gaylord; daughter, Kellie (Bruce) Vance of Midland; grandchildren, James, Larry, Mike, Dan, Jeff, Brent, Julie, Amy and Craig; 17 great-grandchildren; and sister in law, Katie Guoan; many close nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Bryce Baker, sister, Ruth Harrington; and grandson, Kenneth Scott Carroll.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will take place at 11:00 am. On Thursday, March 16, 2017 From the First Baptist Church of Midland with Pastor Lara Heise officiating. Family will receive friends on Thursday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of service. Private inurnment will be in Midland City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to First Baptist Church or the Special Olympics. Personal messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.wilson-miller.com
