Emil Edward Kapanka, age 84 of Midland, died of a heart attack at his farm on Thursday, January 7, 2010.
Emil was born in Larkin Township on the family homestead to the late Herman and Emma (Schmidt) Kapanka on March 26, 1925.
He attended Hubbard Elementary School and Midland High School. Emil worked for the Dow Chemical Co. as a plant mechanic, retiring in 1982. He had been married to Ilomay Armstrong and she had his son, Mark. They divorced in 1960. He also had been married to Wilma Marchington (Andrick), divorcing in 1975.
Emil enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming and appreciated his independence. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was very generous. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles AERIE #2110 and liked playing cards and visiting with his fellow Eagle members.
Emil is survived by his sister, Hildegard Lauver of Elkhart, Indiana; brother in law, Albert J. Pruss of Midland; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his half sisters, Ruth (Vern) Graves and Helen (Walter) Dietlein and Helen's second husband Wendell Kelly; sisters, Ella (Wesley) Osmond, Selma Pruss, and Pauline (Weldon) Card.
Funeral and committal services for Mr. Kapanka will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, January 16, 2010 from the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home. Interment will be in Midland Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 pm until the time of service.
Memorials may be offered to Pheasants Forever or the organization of choice.
