Elwyn "Mike" Merrill

April 14, 1923 — March 28, 2013

Elwyn "Mike" E. Merrill, age 90 of Midland died Friday March 28, 2013 at his home. The son of the late Ernest and Pearl (Smith) Merrill was born on January 14, 1923 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. He attended Central Michigan University and graduated from University of Michigan with his BS degree in Chemical Engineering. On November 25, 1943 he married the former Grace Bonnell in Mt. Pleasant. He served with the U.S. Navy during WWII as a PT boat captain. Mike had worked for the Dow Corning Corp and later worked for the Dow Chemical Co., retiring after thirty two years of service. He was a long time member of the Midland First United Methodist Church and the Midland Kiwanis Club. He was an avid boater, a Past Commodore of the Saginaw Bay Yacht Club and was passionate about his cars and golf. Mike enjoyed music and was an accomplished pianist and organist.

Mr. Merrill is survived by his wife of 70 years, Grace Merrill , son William (Pamela) Merrill of League, TX, daughter Patty (Robert) Wallace of Kingwood, TX, grandchildren Robert Merrill, Cameron Wallace, Sara Wallace and three great grandchildren.

Memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 am Thursday, April 4, 2013 from the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Charles Keyworth officiating. Interment will be in Midland City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until time of service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to the Midland First United Methodist Church.
