Elwood E. Strom, age 84, of Midland died Saturday, April 18, 2009 at the Mid Michigan Medical Center.
The son of the late John and Irene (Hallquist) Strom was born on September 14, 1924 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he was raised and educated. Elwood graduated from the South Dakota School of Mines with his BS degree in Metallurgical Engineering. He married Helen Numerick on December 20, 1945 in Milwaukee, WI. After many years in the Western United States the family moved to Midland in 1964. Elwood retired as a Plant Supervisor of the Bromine Div. in 1986 after 25 years of service for the Dow Chemical Co. He was a long time member of the Midland First United Methodist Church, former member of the Midland Elk's, and was an active volunteer for the Midland County Council on Aging and their literacy program. He was also a member of the VIP Program giving tours of the Dow Chemical Co.
Mr. Strom is survived by his wife, Helen Strom; his son, David ( Elena) Strom of Pinehurst, North Carolina; and his daughters, Susan (Patrick) Hanes of Lansing and Barbara (Charles) Frolik of Indianapolis, IN; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home with the Reverend Pamela Buchholz officiating. Interment will be in Midland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 6 to 8 pm and at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 am to time of service. Memorials may be offered to the Midland First United Methodist Church.
