Elmer W. Leigeb, age 88 of Midland, died Thursday morning June 28, 2012 at Colonial Villa. The son of the late Michael and Mary (Winter) Leigeb was born in Midland on December 1, 1923 where he was raised and educated. Elmer served in the United States Army during World War II. He was employed as a welder and pipefitter with Local 85. Elmer enjoyed working on cars, going to auctions, music, playing the fiddle and traveling. He was a member of Holy Scripture Lutheran Church, Sanford American Legion and was a Free & Accepted Mason with the Midland Centre Lodge 273. Elmer was the first Sanford Village President. He enjoyed being with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In April of 1943 Elmer married the former Ermalee Sirrine. She died in 1983
Surviving are sons, James (Carol) Leigeb, Randy (Jan) Leigeb all of Midland; daughter, Dawn (Daniel) Deitsch of Pontiac; 4 grandchildren, Dan (Marcia) Deitsch, Darci Steckel, Jennifer (Michael) Rezmer, Eric (Trina) Leigeb; 2 great grandchildren, Daniel Deitsch III & Jacob Steckel; brothers, Edward "Ed" (Ethel) Leigeb, of Midland, Oliver "Ollie" Leigeb of Sanford, Harold "Hal" (Vicki) Leigeb of Midland; sister, Joanne Kuehne of Martinez, Georgia; many nieces and nephews; special friend and companion, Fern Parent. In addition to his parents Elmer was preceded in death by brothers, Anthony, Paul, Frank, Joseph, Michael Jr., Matthew Leigeb; sister, Mary Adeline Marcy.
A celebration of Elmer's life will take place 7:00 p.m. Monday evening July 9, 2012 from the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home. Rev. Paul Schneider will officiate. Military Honors will be provided by the U. S. Army Funeral Honors and Midland Area Veterans. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Memorials maybe offered to Colonial Villa.
