Elmer "Ray" Emery

Elmer "Ray" Emery, age 86 of Midland, passed away Monday, October 9, 2023 at MyMichigan Health. He was born in Midland on April 5, 1937 to the late William T. "Bill" and Beatrice L. (Livingston) Emery and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1956. Ray served his country honorably with the Michigan National Guard in Alma, serving six months of active duty, taking advanced training, and obtaining the rank of Sergeant.

Ray retired from the Dow Chemical Co. in 1992 as Head Operator from the 441 building after 35 years of service. He was a proud member of Local 12075 and served as a Shop Steward for many years. Ray will be remembered for his love of the "great outdoors". He had a trailer in the Upper Peninsula where he spent most of his time during the fall/winter seasons hunting deer and bear along with fishing. Ray had many bear rugs and deer/fish mounts to be proud of. He wasn't fond of flowers although he had a great appreciation of everything wild in nature.

Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Mary L. (Bowman) Emery; children, Bryan Emery of Beaverton, Mark (Margo) Vercruysse of New Mexico, Mike Burney of New Mexico, Julie (Jonathan) Emery-Groulx of Sanford; siblings, Jane (Max) Chrivia, Linda (Doug) Newman, and Willard (Dianne) Emery. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his son, Carl Ray Emery; sister, Beverly Root; and daughter in-law Carolyn Sue Emery.

There will be a funeral service held at 11 am on Friday, October 13, 2023 from the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home. Don Devers will officiate with private burial to be in Jerome Twp Cemetery.
