Edwin DeWitt Brown, age 87 of Midland, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2014. He was born in Adam County, Indiana to the late DeWitt A. Brown and Grace Johnson on January 5, 1927. Ed attended Midland public schools until age 16. At that time he joined the United States Navy. He served on active duty during World War II from 1944-1946. Family and farming were Ed's passions. He grew up on their family farm located on East Bradford Road in Midland. He made regular trips to southern Indiana to stay in touch with family members. Ed worked in the construction field for many years, primarily for Sugar Construction.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Doris (Bowen-Adams) Brown, and his two sons, Kenny (Luann) Brown of Midland, and Harry (Jill) Brown of Lake Havasu, Arizona. He is also survived by his stepchildren Alison (Steve) Hartman of Midland; Paula Adams formerly of Petoskey (deceased 2013); Jeannie (David) Dellar of Midland; Lynne Adams of Asheville, NC, and Cameron Adams of Bonifay, Florida. Ed's sisters, all of Midland, are Helen Margaret Smith, Dorothy Lee Arthur and Berniece Pelton. Ed's grandchildren are Charity, Quentin Adam, Dylan, Emily, Izabel, Jerika, Jimmy, and Beckett. He also had six great-grandchildren. In addition, he leaves behind numerous other loving relatives and friends.
Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at the Messiah Lutheran Church, 1550 S. Poseyville Rd., Midland with Pastor Kurt Weber officiating. Interment will follow in Poseyville Cemetery with Military Honors being provided by the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors and the Midland Area Veterans. Ed's family will receive friends at Wilson MILLER Funeral Home, 4210 N. Saginaw Road on Monday, April 14 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. and at the Church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be offered to the Midland County Humane Society or MidMichigan Home Care (Hospice). Personal messages of condolence may be offered to the family at www.wilson-miller.com
