Earl Marvin Varner, age 86, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026, surrounded by loved ones in his home. Born on September 5,1939, Earl was the son of Clarence and Ada Varner. At the center of his life was his beloved wife, Helen, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage. Earl and Helen built their cherished family home after they were married in 1960 on part of the Varner homestead established in 1909. Family was at the heart of Earl’s life.
Earl is survived by his beloved children: Cynthia (Bob) Bixler, Ricky Varner, Renay Baker, and Kristen Varner; and his grandchildren Robert (Theresa) Bixler, Matthew (Caitlin) Frezza, Alycia Frezza, Bethany (Caleb) Newell, Kellen Bixler, Emma Frank, Rian Varner, Ada (Andrew) Place, Zachary Varner and Anna Baker. He was a proud great-grandfather to seven great-grandchildren, with two great-granddaughters soon to be born. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Fitak-Varner, son Blaine Varner, and son-in-law Larry Baker.
Earl is also survived by his siblings: Connie Moe, Sally Schneider, Janet Cassaday, and Jerry Varner.
Earl dedicated many years of his life to Dow Corning as a skilled pipefitter welder, where he was respected for his strong work ethic and craftsmanship. Beyond his profession, he was a lifelong farmer who held a deep and abiding love for his land. Earl also had a passion for vintage vehicles and motorcycles, finding joy in preserving pieces of the past. His wide-ranging interests included camping, fishing and hunting.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Wilson Miller Funeral Home, 4210 N. Saginaw Road, Midland, Michigan. A memorial service will begin at 7:00 pm, led by his son, Father Ricky Varner. Rite of Committal, also led by Father Ricky Varner, will take place for the immediate family members at Midland Memorial Gardens on Friday, May 1, 2026 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to McLaren Hospice.
