Dorothy L. Shaw, age 95 of Midland, died July 30, 2014 at her home. The daughter of the late James and Inez Douthitt was born in Crafton, Pennsylvania and grew up in Pittsburgh. She was a medical secretary who worked for Midland Hospital and area doctors. Dorothy was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, and enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, playing bridge, and following politics. She was the past president of the local chapter of the National Organization for Women and a member of the ACLU. Dorothy was a graduate of Carnegie Tech, where she met her husband, Walter Mark Shaw. They married in 1943, and after 67 years of marriage, he died in 2011.
Surviving are her son, James (Marnie Weber) Shaw of Los Angeles, California; daughters, Kathleen (James) Kortge of Fenton, Nancy (Scott) Shaw of Ann Arbor, Eleanor (Lotfi) Shaw-Belblidia of Gaithersburg, Maryland; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers James and Harold Douthitt.
A celebration of Dorothy's life will take place at St. John's Episcopal Church, 405 N. Saginaw Rd., Midland, MI 48640, on Saturday, October 4, at 2 p.m. A gathering will follow in the church's Williams Hall.
