Dorothy M. Alberts, age 84 of Sanford, died Tuesday morning June 28, 2011 at her residence. The daughter of the late Frank and Minnie (Church) Smith was born in Perrinton, Michigan on February 11, 1927. Dorothy was employed for many years at Sam's Tavern in Saginaw until retiring in 1986 at which time she moved to Sanford. She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers, playing cards with her family. Dorothy loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren teaching them how to play cards.
Surviving is her husband William of 60 years whom she married on July 5, 1951 in Chicago; sons, Steve (Dottie) Burgdorf of Kawkawlin, Randy (Lorraine) Burgdorf of Freeland, Tim (Shelia) Alberts of Saginaw, Jim (Cathy) Alberts of Valrico, Florida, Rick (Linda) Alberts of Lake City, Roger Alberts of Sanford; former daughter in law, Alna of Bay City; grandchildren, Jenny, Bethany, Sunny, Candi, Ryan, Dan, Will, Lisa, Nicole, Chad, Sara, Justin and Alicia; 14 great grandchildren; and 2 on layaway; brothers, Dean and Bud Smith. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her brothers, Al, Harry and Joe Smith; sisters, Rosie Barber and Guila Hartlibe.
Funeral services will take place 4:00 p.m. Thursday June 30, 2011 from Wilson MILLER Funeral Home. Rev. Wayne Shidler Chaplin with Heartland Hospice will officiate. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 and on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be offered to Heartland Hospice.
