Doris E. Brown

Doris E. Brown, age 90, of Midland, passed away Monday, January 22, 2018 at Colonial Villa, Midland. The daughter of the late Herbert and Hettie (Rider) Bowen was born January 7, 1928 in Midland where she was raised and educated. Doris was married to Edwin D. Brown who preceded her in death on April 9, 2014. She retired after 30 years of service from Northwood University as a switchboard operator where she was known as the "Voice of Northwood". After her retirement she volunteered as a Friendly Visitor with Senior Services. She loved to play games, laugh and spend time with her family. Doris was an avid bowler.

She is survived by her son, Cameron Adams of Bonifay, FL; daughters Alison (Steve) Hartman of Midland, Jeannie (David) Dellar of Midland, and Lynne Adams of Asheville, NC; step sons, Kenny (Luann) Brown, and Harry (Jill) Brown; grandchildren, Adam, Dylan, Emily, Izabel, Jerika, Jimmy, Beckett, Charity, and Quentin; and 9 great grandchildren; and her brother Tom (Reta) Bowen.

In addition to her husband Ed, she was preceded in death by her daughter Paula Adams; her first husband and the father of her children, James Adams; and her siblings, Herbert, Nancy, Bob, Jerry, and Don Bowen.

The family shares their greatest gratitude for the staff at Colonial Villa who lovingly cared for Doris in the last four years of her life.

Funeral services for Doris will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home with Kathy Kresge from First Church of Christ, Scientist officiating. Burial will follow in Poseyville Cemetery. Family will receive guests on Thursday at the funeral home from 10 am until the time of service. Memorials in Doris' name may be offered to First Church of Christ, Scientist, 510 E. St. Andrews St., Midland, MI 48642 or Senior Services.
