Donald Larry Thurston, age 79 of Midland, passed away on March 28, 2024 at MyMichigan Health with family at his side. Larry was the son of the late Donald and Joann Thurston and was born July 19, 1944 in Midland. Larry Graduated from Midland High School in 1962. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He retired from the Dow Chemical Company as a welder after 34 years. After retirement he worked at G.S.I. as a welding and pipefitting instructor.

He was a member of the Midland American Legion Post 165, Midland Masonic Lodge 273F & AM, and a Member of Elf Khurafeh, Shriners A.A.O.N.M.S of Saginaw. Larry enjoyed working on his antique cars, spending time with his family and more so with his grandchildren.

Larry met and married the love of his life, Kathy Bonham, on April 16, 2010, who survives him after 14 years of marriage. He is also survived by daughters, Dawn Harrison of Midland, Tonda (Chris) Cole of Wills Point, TX, Laurie (Steve) Glasgow; son, Jeremy (Shaine) Shufelt; brothers Daryl (Donna) Thurston of Cornell, MI, Barry (Faye) Thurston of Midland; grandchildren, Haleigh, Cayla, and Sarah Harrison, and Gary, Kaden, and Cooper Cole, Jacob, and Hanna Glasgow, Laikyn, Dawson, and Paxton Shufelt, Kelsey and Jack Kline; 6 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his son, Allan Thurston; son in law, Noel Harrison and his parents, Don and Joann Thurston.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at the Homer Township Fire Station, 222 S. Homer Road, Midland, MI. Family will receive guests from 11:00am with services being at 1:00pm led by Pastor David Kissinger.
